SHOW TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, first and foremost, I was wrong. I said my show in Chicago with Blag from the mighty Dwarves was on Wednesday, but it’s tomorrow. It’s Tuesday the fourteenth. It’s at the Debonair social club (on Milwaukee, just south of North Ave) and I’m playing acoustic, Matt Skiba is (in theory) Djing, and Blag from the Dwarves is playing acoustic too. If the show in Florida on Friday is any indication, I’m gonna be great. Come on down and have some fun. Bring pills.
So, yeah, Florida show. It was swell. For those of you who don’t know what I’m referring to, Tom from Against Me, Dan from the Alkaline Trio and little old me got together down in the shaft of America to play some acoustic songs. Those guys were both great, but let’s be honest, I was the real highlight, right? Of course I was.
Nah, seriously it was a good time. There was a point though where I wanted to hang out with my friends (because, you know…socialization of mammals and all that; I get lonely just standing in a parking lot drinking amstel by myself) and the only people I knew there were Dan and Tom…but they both had lines of people waiting to get them to sign shit/pose for pics etc. And fuck, man. I’m not standing in line to get a picture with Tom. That’s crazy. Much less to just casually say, “check out that guy’s pants. What’s he? A medieval Russian blacksmith?” You know? That’s off the cuff stuff. Not ‘stand in line’ stuff. So I just kind of kicked it in the lot, drinking beer. But that’s cool. That’s how I grew up. Standing in parking lots drinking beer waiting for shows to start. It was a lot like Rocky going back to his old gym, or Dahmer killing dogs. You gotta remember and embrace what made you who you are. Unless it’s some kind of incest thing, then, probably it’s okay to just forget it and move on. Uh…woah, heavy. Anyway.
Yeah, so I looked around a little bit, and here’s what I noticed (and I probably rattled this little joke off about a zillion times while I was in Florida) it was all Trio shirts and Against Me! shirts, which pretty much means it looked EXACTLY like a Lawrence Arms show. Huh? Huh? Right? Hmmm… It seemed funnier at the time I guess. Fuck. You people are grumpy today. What’s the problem? Case of the Mondays? Had to take another morning after pill? Dead pet? Shitty job? No job? Going to Jail? Out of drugs? Yeah…bummer.
Okay, so last thing about the show…these young girls (22ish) were asking Dan and Tom to sign their posters (nice silkscreened posters were made for the show) and then, as an afterthought they approached me and said, “hey! You should sign the poster too!” As I was signing, one of the girls said “you’re gonna have to get used to this. You’ll be doing this a lot some day!”
Isn’t that sweet? She thought I was at the BEGINNING of my long arc of a career in the music business. Nowhere to go but slightly up, before ultimately plummeting back down. It was sweet. It was a real return to my roots…again, with the standing around in the parking lot and the…Look, you know what I’m sezzin, right?
Yeah, but it was good. I had a great, great time playing and Tom and Dan were both awesome. I’m assuming that tomorrow night is gonna be really fun too. I hope you guys come out.
Today, I’m gonna end this thing early, because I need to go pick up our first ever roadie and take him to breakfast. He’s back in Chicago after a long stint working as a bartender at the biggest strip club in Denver. Tits make this guy yawn now, but show him a set of sweaty nuts and he’s insatiable! He’d punch his aunt in the face for some nuts, boy.
Okay, whatever. Happy Monday. Tomorrow I’ll be back in proper form.
xoxoxo

That Florida show would have been a dream. I so wish I could have been there, but alas I'm stuck up in Canada. Speaking of which, the last time The Lawrence Arms were to play here they couldn't make it, so I'm still waiting for that to be made up to us. Come back to Ottawa please!

THE SHOW FRIDAY WAS EPIC!!!!

Me and my friend were the ones that came from Chicago just for you and chanted "Nuts, Nuts We Want Nuts!"

Haha, so speaking of nuts, I love the tag on this entry!

Also... it was amazing that you even BEGAN to play Cobracoustic when I shouted that shit out... cuz that song is masterful.

I was that sweaty kid in the red Flatliners shirt... so at least I wasn't wearin a trio shirt of against me shirt, right? heh

Also, you were telling me something about how you wanted to get laid that night, but told your wife you had the hiccups... so she left early or something haha

You are quite the entertainer, on and off stage... and a huge inspiration. When I got home felt compelled to write a song about the show... which I know doesn't mean much, but in a crazy way it does to me... that show was simply put... incredible.

Thanks for the great time man, glad you had fun too!

Anyone know what time this thing starts tomorrow?

uncle buck- according to the terrible Debonair flyer I saw today on facebook (they spelled Matt Skiba's name wrong) it starts at 9pm

Katie- Thanks, I didn't see a time anywhere on the flyer I saw. Looks like all the good stuff will be finished before the regular crowd shows up, thank god.

Hi, Brendan. I’m hoping you can throw some advice my way.
This girl and I met in our freshman year of high school and we got to be pretty good friends during that time but now we’re juniors in college. I’d say that we were only really close for about a year, year and a half total. Things happened and during the other years, in my view, anyway, we were friends because of the past. We didn’t talk much at all in-between. I think the last time I hung out with her was in either December ‘07 or January ‘08 and it just wasn’t fun hanging out with her. And the next time I had a legit conversation with her was in August. Even though it wasn’t fun hanging out with her that time, I thought maybe it was just a rough day and IM’d her or called her about once a week to see if she could hang out. I’d either not get an answer or she’d say she was busy. Understandable, she worked a lot and things, but in August, she blew up at me via IM and told me I annoyed the shit out of her. Again, understandable, but I would think that since I thought we were still friends, she’d understand I just wanted to have lunch or something. You know, an hour of her time to catch up. And it bummed me out when she said that. A month later, I told her I didn’t want to be her friend anymore because when she told me I annoyed her, I started thinking that the friendship ran its course and we could end it without hard feelings. And I’m comfortable with that now too. She was really defensive and thought I was joking, I guess. She still wanted to be friends and I was admittedly stubborn, but given the past history of our friendship, I’d seen it before. Didn’t talk to her at all until a week ago.
We were at a party and we were a beer pong table’s length away from each other, each in a corner, and she texted me asking if I was still mad at her. On one hand, I can see why she’d text, but it’s also pretty pathetic that we can’t talk to each other. (Technology’s fucked this generation up a little bit). She asked “Why r u so mad at me?!” I didn’t respond and then, it seemed to be that she changed her attitude and said “it honestly upsets me that i lost you as a friend because i’m an asshole.” I left the party because I was drunk and high and that wasn’t the right way to talk to her. The host of the party told me she bugged out to him about me. She was the last person to leave, apparently. I want to give her closure because I can’t honestly say I REALLY gave it to her in August. I want us to have an understanding.
Is/was it a dick move to just end the friendship? I feel like if I met her today, we wouldn’t be friends. I’m not bitter about anything but she thinks I am. I see us as just two different people who were friends for a while, but we changed and if we did become friends again, it’d be the same topsy-turvy bullshit. And I don’t like that kind of half-assed stuff.
I’d appreciate your insight.

Tim

Dude I came to that show from Chicago just to see you. so don't feel shitty about those girls thinking you were just starting out (that kind of made me laugh). anyways I thought it was awesome. That show was the highlight of my year if that means anything

I hope me and my friend(sean below) weren't too annoying haha but we were just hanging around with nowhere to go. basically the show was amazing. you were awesome.
I recorded it so if you want to hear let me know it's good quality and all that jazz. Maybe you should check it out.

AND I took some pretty sweet pictures if you want to see them.

I wish I was going to the show tomorrow. Maybe I'll work something out.
Either way thanks for the awesome show Friday. I couldn't have hoped for anything better :)

Hey, Sean. I want the audio files or whatever the fuck you have of the show. Goddamn.

Alison Neubauer said...

I have those audio files. Where would everyone like me to post them?

James said...

I bet those chicks who said that to you were those bitches from The Hills. OR! at least that's where they discovered Alkaline Trio

And to whoever has the audio - please sendspace that shit or something and post it here?!

How old do you have to be to get into debonair?

I'm a bit confused why multiple people have personally offered BK their recordings of the concert, but none of them just posted them online.

Long story short, I want the recordings.

Yo BK! What should I do to spice up my tylenol with codeine? I got my wisdom teeth pried out and it's really not doing the trick. Not only are they not killing the pain, I'm not even getting a buzz. I feel ripped off. What should I do?

Dude, why single yourself out? Weren't yourself, Dan and Tom all three drinking amstel in the parking lot before the show?

Anyhow, the new stuff was fantastic. I can't recall all the nuances--my alcohol intake was already substantial at that point--but this one particular lyrical snippet-- "You're cool--fuck you--oh, you're cool, too" -- stuck out as awesome and survived the overnight alcohol retention filter. Oh, and that one guy REALLY wanted Dan to play 'Enjoy Your Day', huh? Jesus. Christ. Haha...anyway.

Also, sorry again for spilling your beer, which you may or may not remember. To be fair, it was on account of some clown knocking into me from behind--a chain reaction type of deal--but yeah. I tried to be as punctual as possible with your replacement Amstel, and I feel I was fairly successful in that regard. All things considered, a hell of a show. You three really made some magic.

Btw people, there's some decent quality video already up on youtube. Most of what I've seen thus far is from Dan's set. I'm hoping more will be added.

If Anyone has recorded anything post it on the forums at www.lawrencearms.org we will post it on the site or something as long as thats ok with brendan

One! Why is this 21+? Some of your fans are only 20. And can't afford fake IDs.

B-Why can they not spell Skiba right? He's only like, really important in music.

Also, why are you billed as Bradley from the Lawrence Arms?

Crazy! See, if only I still had a job, I could have been the 30th drunk guy to come and spill your beer and tell you I came all the way from Bumblefuck New Mexico to see your show! I'll whore myself out to buy a bus ticket to Chicago. It's Greyhound, so make sure you keep up the good work on giving prior notice. I'll, ah, take a couple weeks to get there.

Anyway, congrats on the show. Sounds like it was killer. I'm going to go cry myself to sleep now.
